Understanding Breast Symmetry

It is completely normal for one breast to be slightly larger than the other. This calculator estimates how similar the two measurements are and expresses the result as a symmetry percentage.

Difference = |Left − Right|

Symmetry % = 100 − (Difference ÷ Larger Measurement ×100)

Perfect symmetry is uncommon. Even a difference of several millimeters or a small fraction of an inch is considered completely normal for most women.

99–100%

Nearly Perfect Symmetry

Your left and right breast measurements are extremely similar. Perfect symmetry is uncommon, so this result indicates very little difference between both breasts.

95–98%

Very Symmetrical

A very small difference exists between your breasts. This level of asymmetry is completely normal and usually unnoticeable in everyday clothing.

90–94%

Mild Asymmetry

One breast is slightly larger than the other. This is extremely common and generally does not require any special support beyond a properly fitted bra.

Below 90%

Noticeable Asymmetry

A larger size difference is present. Some women prefer bras with removable inserts or individually fitted cups for improved comfort and appearance.

Why Breast Asymmetry Happens

Natural causes of breast asymmetry

Genetics

Most breast asymmetry is inherited and develops naturally during puberty.

Hormonal Changes

Hormone fluctuations throughout life can temporarily or permanently affect breast size.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Milk production often differs between breasts, creating temporary or lasting size differences.

Weight Changes

Weight gain and loss can affect each breast differently, leading to small measurement differences.

Age

Natural aging changes skin elasticity and breast tissue, which may increase asymmetry over time.

Normal Anatomy

Almost every woman has one breast that is slightly larger or shaped differently than the other.
